Kung Fu Panda Story Test

Hi guys!

So it's time for my annual blog post! HA HA!

I don't really know where to start with this. YOU'RE ALL SO BEHIND ON MY LIFE.  Can you all just be up to date without me having to post anything? Mmmm Kaaaay? Thanks.

So, I'm currently at Dreamworks Animation working as a story artist. I've been there for almost two years now and I absolutely love it there. I've been bouncing around a lot to all the major studios over the past few years. And am pretty happy to have finally landed here.

Anywaayzzz, so this is a story test that I did to help my portfolio! This was done about 3 years ago! So don't judge too harshly. I want to go and clean every thing up, but I figured it's more useful exactly as I submitted it. After I finished my Defying Gravity boards, I took my portfolio around to everyone I knew that would look at it to get feedback so I could get better. One of my old CalArts teachers was working at Dreamworks at the time. After looking at my portfolio, he thought a story test might be a nice supplement to it since I did the Defying Gravity stuff on my own time. It'd be nice to prove I could do something on a production schedule. Normally the story tests are given to applicants for the training program. But I was happy to do it! Problem solving is one of my favorite parts of storyboarding and I kind of had complete freedom to do whatever I wanted with this test. So the way it works is this: I was given the characters, and a situation. Po and Mr. Ping are serving a banquet at the Jade Palace. On the way to the banquet they encounter a hungry customer. There was no script. That was all I had to work with. They were very clear that I could make it a comedy, drama, action scene etc. Whatever I wanted! And so this is what I came up with! I wrote all the dialogue and came up with the story.

Hope you enjoy!  Until next year... HA HA!
